Licensing In Private Network
Important Notice for TestEngine Customers
Starting from ReadyAPI 3.62.0, VirtServer 3.29.0, and TestEngine 1.34.0, SmartBear Product Family has fully deprecated file-based licenses and transitioned to the ID-based SmartBear License Management (SLM) system. As of October 1, 2025, file-based licenses are no longer issued, activated/deactivated, or supported; all new and updated licenses are managed through SLM. For further information and timelines, refer to the File-Based License End-of-Support Policy page.
About on-premises licenses
Starting from TestEngine 1.28 release, SmartBear ID-based licenses are controlled by the License Servers hosted on your premises. Once configured correctly, TestEngine connects to this server to check whether a license is available. Once a license is available, it will be requested, assigned, and installed.
The term on-premises indicates that the license is controlled by a server running in your private network. This differs from an online license, which is managed by the SmartBear license server available online.
Notes
An on-premises license is bound to the On-Premises License Server. This is the default SmartBear ID-based license option for TestEngine starting with version 1.28.
To move and use the license on another computer, you need to uninstall it on the current one. For details, see Uninstalling On-Premises Licenses.
